I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend! The children are back and ready for another busy week!

Last week the children went to the computer lab several times to publish one of their first writing pieces of second grade. They did a phenomenal job! This week they will be attending the lab for a research project and web quest activity. This technology experience will emphasize various animal kingdoms.

Homework Information

I have made a change in the due date regarding homework. I am giving all children the option of turning in their homework packets on Mondays instead of Fridays. This will allow more time for your child to complete required assignments if needed. However, if he or she would like to continue turning in his or her work on Fridays, that is acceptable as well.

**Instructions for this week’s assignments in Reading:

Read the instructions for each graphic organizer with your child. He or she may choose any book for these activities. However, I still want the children to practice reading the stories of the week (listed above) for reinforcement. This information is also reiterated in the directions.

Strategies to help your child learn his/her spelling words this week:

  • Flashcards
  • Playing a game of “I spy…” with your child (i.e. I spy a word that rhymes with…)
  • Writing spelling words in sentences.
  • Making letter cards and making each word.
  • You may also begin a little word wall at home with your child. Each week he or she can add new words to their word wall. As time progresses, you may refer to this word wall for practice, games, etc…

This week your child can choose how he/she would like to practice the spelling words at home. This work does not need to be returned to me.
