Welcome !

Physical Education Department

Parents and Students: The primary objective of the physical education program of the Diocese of St. Augustine is to provide opportunities in which each student will develop optimal levels of spiritual, mental, social, and physical wellness. Physical education will enable each student to establish a positive self-image, confidence, and the appreciation of God’s gift of life. Our Physical Education program follows objectives set forth by the Diocese and directly correlates with State and National standards.

Uniforms: Students in grades 5-8 will wear their dress uniform to school and change into their P.E. uniforms. Students in kindergarten through fourth grade will wear their P.E. uniform to school on the days they have P.E.  Sneakers must be worn correctly for safety and support. (If student has skateboarding sneakers i.e. Vans, Etnies, etc. they must be laced so they do not fall off when students are running). Students whose sneakers are not tied properly will not be allowed to participate and will not receive credit for that class. Students are not allowed to wear sunglasses to P.E. unless required to by their Doctor.

Excuses: If your child cannot participate in P.E., please send a note to the office or to Coach Marolf. Your child will be expected to participate if they do not have a note. Extended injuries require a letter from your Doctor and will result in an alternative P.E. activity or alternative placement.

Water: It is very important that students keep themselves hydrated. Students are encouraged to bring water bottles to P.E. Because of safety issues, students will not be allowed to travel across the parking lot to re-enter the school for water breaks. We will provide water for students during P.E.

Injuries: All injuries should be reported to Coach Marolf before student leaves class so that proper first aid procedures may be followed and the injury may be documented.

Grading Policy: Physical education grades follow the format in the Student/Parent handbook.

Students in 3rd through 8th grades will earn letter grades. (A, B, C, D, or F).

Physical Education classes follow the objectives set forth by the Diocese and

factor into the student’s final grade.

Students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade will receive an S, N, or U (S=Satisfactory, N=Needs Improvement, U=Unsatisfactory).

Grading is based on: 1. participation   2. mastery of concepts  3. quizzes
