Math: Group 1(Chapter 8 ) is focusing on measurement, weight, time, elapsed time, units of length and capacity, measuring tools, problem solving strategies and applications, etc…). Group 2 (Ch. 9) is focusing on geometry: congruent figures, line segments, angles, polygons, symmetry, transformations solid figures, perimeter, area, volume, problem solving strategies and applications, etc…). Groups have shifted. There is no longer a group 3. Students will be tested on these concepts next week. Reading Story of the Week: Students will be focusing on their “Scrapbook” book report this week along with the story Good-Bye, 382 Shin Dang Dong
L.A. Emphasis: Students will be focusing on activities and lessons that will be assigned in our reading and cross-curricular units. students have covered each unit. This week we will review units 3 & 4. They will take a unit 3 & 4 Mastery test on Friday. This test will require students to find sentences that show the correct spelling, and the correct use of verbs and contractions. Please review these units with your child at home. Students will finish unit 11 in Vocabulary this week. Due toIOWA practice testing, they will not be tested on unit 11 until next week. Exact dates will be given in next week’s newsletter. Religion: The children will continue Chapter 11. In this chapter, the children will gain a deeper understanding of the parish as a Catholic community and the various ways people serve in their parish. They will also focus on the season of Lent. Science/ S.S. (rotating basis): We will begin Chapter 6 in Social Studies. This chapter focuses on various mountain communities, national heroes, water communities, world climate regions, conflict resolution, and roads and railroads. I am also excited to tell you all that we are ordering incubators to hatch baby ducklings. We will also be creating a duck habitat for our ducklings outside our classroom door! We can hardly wait for this life science unit to come alive!!! Important Reminders:
Spelling Words: because, though, taught, bought, touch, would, author, could, enough, sausage, fought, should, faucet, daughter, brought, laundry, distraught, afterthought, auditorium, overwrought H.W. for Scrap Book Report Students must create a collage including pictures, words, phrases, etc… from magazines that relate to the story The Mouse and the Motorcycle. After carefully cutting them out and pasting them on paper, please place the collage into a page protector. This will be inserted as one of the pages in their book reports. Please encourage your child to use as much detail as possible. Prayer Power By:Third Graders Dear God, thank You for protecting us and keeping us safe.
